Delivery Orders
Delivery Orders
A delivery order (often abbreviated as DO) in the whisky cask industry is a legal document that transfers ownership of a cask from one party to another.
What does a delivery order do?
- Transfers legal title of the cask(s) from the current owner (seller) to the new owner (buyer).
- Instructs the bonded warehouse (like Castlelaw) to register the cask under the name of the new owner.
- Serves as official proof of ownership
Why It Matters?
- In the whisky ownership world, you don’t hold a cask without a DO.
- It’s not enough to have an invoice or certificate. The DO is what gives you true, legal ownership.
- The warehouse will only take instructions from the person listed as the owner on their records.
